Fw: CHS '59ers Blog Update

Sent: Friday, August 27, 2010 10:47 AM

Kent, so sorry to hear of the loss of your mom.  Our moms were contemporaries.  Having just lost mine in April, I know the void this can leave.  I just wanted you to know how special your mom was.  She was indeed a kind, caring and thoughtful person.  My mom spoke so highly of her.  When you mom was a patient at Dr. Marsh's where my mom worked until she was 90, your mother always remembered her with such wonderful little remembrances that mother always so appreciated.  It is truly the passing of an era.  I remember your mom fondly as a genteel southern lady.  My deepest condolences.

A Great CHS '59er Loss; Joe Eberhart

From Nancy Poole Klein:

Sunday morning paper has the obituary for Joe Eberhart.  Visitation will be at Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Monday from 5-8 p.m. and funeral will be on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Pine Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church in McDonald, TN.
Joe and Donna had lived in McDonald for years.  The Obituary speaks of their having an aerial photography company.  As I recall it, Joe was injured in a plane crash several years ago and had never fully recovered.  I'm not sure about the recovery, but had heard this somewhere over time.  I have not seen either Joe or Donna in years.  They kind of moved to McDonald and disappeared from the daily "radar."  I had known both of them through church circles since we were in high school and before they were married.

Joe Eberhart's obituary from The Chattanooga Times Free-Press:

Joseph K. Eberhart, 69, of McDonald, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010, in a local hospital.Born in Atlanta, he moved to Chattanooga in 1958, and was the son of the late Frank and Kathryn Hutchison Eberhart.

He graduated from City High in 1959 and the University of Chattanooga in 1964, where he received his BA in Pre-Med and in 1965, his MA in teaching and he also had 16 hours towards his PhD at UT Knoxville.

Joe taught fifth grade for two years at McBrien Elementary and also taught biology, chemistry and physics for 10 years at Dalton High School.

In 1976 he started his own Aerial Photography business with his wife Donna. Joe was the pilot, printed all the photos and made the frames, while his wife, Donna was the photographer and delivered the photos.

Joe also loved playing and teaching the guitar. He loved Jesus and telling others about Him, and now he has gone home to be with Him.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Charlie Eberhart.Survivors include his wife, Donna Brock Eberhart; son, Carl V. Eberhart and Don B. (Brenda) Eberhart, all of McDonald; sister, Teresa Gaddis, Ooltewah; brother, Buck Eberhart, Grayson, Ga.; two grandsons, Blake P. Eberhart and Daniel J. Eberhart.

Funeral services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Pine Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Russ Maroon officiating.Interment will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Pine Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 974 Old Alabama Road, McDonald, TN 37353.

Please share your thoughts and memories online at mem.com.The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 7414 Old Lee Highway.

Save the Date June 4, 2011

Hey Classmates,

Please mark your calendars now for what we hope will be a fun, casual, easy going birthday party get-together.

I have booked the Bessie Smith Hall from 5:00 til 10:00. We will meet and greet, hug necks and carry on from 5 – 7 with light hors d’ oeuvres, beer and wine, etc. and at 7:00 will have a delicious meal catered by The Big Table (I think their food is wonderful). We’ll probably have a birthday cake after dinner.

Today I booked a DJ who will start his music while we eat and then crank it up for some dancing to fifties music. He’s got lots of 50’s numbers and will throw in an Electric Slide and a Brick House - that ought to really get us going!

A lot more information will be coming your way a little later. I know a lot of you will be coming in on Friday and we can certainly gather for dinner as a group Dutch treat if you’d like.  Folks coming from NashvilleAtlanta, etc. may just want to come in on Saturday. If any of you want to have brunch on Sunday, let us know – there are several places downtown that could accommodate us. I’m sure Anne J will follow up on the Friday/Sunday gathering.

Let us know your thoughts, suggestions, whatever and I really hope we will have a big turnout. I think it is going to be fun.

Love from North Chattanooga,
Susie Turner Crouch
