Chief Justice Willliam Barker delays his retirement

Tennessee's Supreme Court Chief Justice, William M. Barker, will remain on the bench until Sept. 15, two weeks later than his original retirement date, so that the court will have its full five members for a Knoxville docket on Sept. 3, he said today.

"When I notified the governor in early May of my intended retirement on Sept. 1, I had hoped that would allow enough time for the selection process to be completed before the court heard cases in Knoxville," he said. "However, the Judicial Selection Commission willh= not be able to meet until Aug. 18 to evaluate applicants for the Supreme Court and recommend three names to the governor. That close time frame, coupled with the Labor Day holiday, convinced me that I need to be available to sit with the court."

Barker said he discussed the decision with the governor's office and "he agrees with my decision to postpone my retirement for two weeks."

Our School Song!

Now, forward, we go to the fight
While proud waves our banner above,
For purity gleams from its white,
And maroon stands for Power and Love.
Now hope points us onward to life
While proud voices blend in happy chorus:

Conquerors we in each strife.
For CHS, for CHS, we'll be victorious.

Subject: death of Gary cook

Hi Carolyn,

A fellow Bulldog with my bunch, Gary Cook, CHS Class of '60, died Thursday, May 26, in Dayton, age 66. Cause of death was not given, but I have his obituary if anyone should want it. Many of us knew people who were either one year ahead of us or behind us and possibly some of our folks knew Gary. He was a pretty neat fellow.

Thanks so much,

D.L.

Registration/hospitality suite at the Choo Choo

We have reserved a hospitality room and an adjoining suite at the Chatta. Choo Choo to use during our 50th reunion next May 15, 16, 17th, 2009. That is where we will register and "hang out." We have also arranged a very good deal on room reservations. They will only be $89 a room (one king, or 2 twins) if we have a minimim of 20 rooms. Please keep this in mind as you make plans for the reunion. Also, the Choo Choo has a great website if you want to view photos, www.choochoo.com.

Hi guys, this is Bud Woodward, and I wanted all to know that I have copies of the Marching Band for the above years. I am hoping to attend the planning meeting in July and if possible the 50th Anniversary in 2009. Just moved from New Hampshire to Atlanta last fall and enjoying it all. Great to see the web site. Love to hear from you all, and pray God's richest blessings on all of us. Who are these old people?
