David Willbanks was a June baby!

I am enjoying seeing all the birthday greetings for members of our class.

My birthday is June 16, 1941.

David Willbanks

All on ages:

I was 69 on December 27, 2009.

I thought that I was the oldest in the Class of '59.

Jim Schaeffer

Bet you wish you'd been there!

Mary Helen McDaris and Martha Gail Smith served up a smörgåsbord (along with the crew at Hermitage Smörgåsbord) to their Nashville-based CHS '59er classmates.

Conversation turned to City High's historic rivalry with Central High, whether or not David still seemed shy and how Martha Gail's work at the Gideon Bible HQ had saved so many people.

We saluted Col. Alvin and Col. Martha along with Mary Helen, wife to a high ranking career officer.  Mary Helen served the country as a civilian teacher at military bases around the world.

Melanie, the Commish who ran the state for 35 years, confessed she learned her leadership skills as girls volley ball team captain at City.

Famous Hermitage Smörgåsbord fritters topped off the feast with friends.

Col. Alvin Fox, Mary Helen McDaris, Dru Smith Fuller, Martha Gail Smith, David Parker, Commissioner Melanie Sissie Bowen Hampton and Col. Martha Hassler Hammond at Hermitage Smörgåsbord

Chattanooga Lunch Bunch

Front Row - Anne, Judy, Susie, Linda C and Linda M
Back Row - Sandra, Gloria, Phoebe, Sandy, Dora and Wanda

The Chattanooga Lunch Bunch met today at Serendipity's for a great lunch and many laughs.

We had several newcomers.  Each month, we get to enjoy the company of someone that we have not seen in quite sometime.  This month Judy Laubscher McClung and Wanda Sullivan Lamb came  up from Atlanta and Dalton.  Wanda had joined us once before.  We were all so glad to see Judy and and she is still as pretty as ever.

Phoebe Fincher McDaniel also came up from Rock Spring, GA.  This was her first time to join us and Gloria Hudson Sutton also came for the first time.  Welcome to all of you and we hope you can come back.

We always meet on the Fourth Thursday of the month and at noon unless we otherwise notify the group.  In April, we will meet at Nikko's Southside Grill.

Paul gives advice...

Carolyn,

Indeed you are.  Why, you're just a young girl....never forget it.

One more birthday note

Forget the part about Paul and Carolyn being born on the same day! We weren't even born the same year! I am a whole year younger!

A July Birthday for Cindy

…and my birthday is July 25.  I still cannot believe we are this old.  Cindy Lichtenstetter Wilson

Anne Johnson loves a party!

If I am the eldest I know that I am not the wisest!

However, I do enjoy parties. It's almost worth getting older to party with your friends.

I am 69 since January and will be 70 when we have our CHS birthday party.

Whatever my age from now on, I am "just so proud to be here!" I may wear a Minnie Pearl hat to our party to emphasize the phrase.

Are we going to have our birthday party in May 2011?

Carolyn Gash Shumate finds people her age

Hi Everybody,

I remember asking myself years ago, Where all are all of the people my age?

I guess this email has answered my question!

When were you ever too shy? I hope you had a wonderful birthday.

Thanks for being our class historian at the re-union.

Trudy remembers Paul was voted "wittiest"

Paul Robere,
I hope you have many more years of enjoying life as you have done since we were high school.

Keep living up to your title of "wittiest".

Kent Smith is back from the future

OK,   I can't type, (my birthday is) 11-28 -2010.  Kent Smith

Susie Crouch asked; see who answered

When I asked Kent Shalibo and Lloyd Stanley their birth dates; here are their replies:

Susie Q,
October 7th but don't do anything elaborate: no big party, just a small gathering. Or perhaps a gift of a weekend in the Smokies.
Kent Shalibo

Oh, Susie,
You're so thoughtful!  It's July 2, 1941.  But don't go to a lot of trouble.  A new Lamborghini Murcielago would be nice, but if that's too much, a late model Maserati will do just fine!  If you place the order now, it should be here by July 2.
Lloyd Stanley

Tom Wilson just claims "older and wiser"

Susie Turner Couch,

You are correct that I was born in '41 and therefore not the oldest.

The competition for wisest is too intimidating to make that claim.  I will settle for "older and wiser."

Tom Wilson

Kent Smith faces 70 in 2070 (or, he can't type)

If there is someone already 70 I'm not the oldest.

I don't get there until 11-28-70.

Kent Smith

Susie answers Tom

Tom:

Weren't you born in '41? If so, we have several who were born in '40.

We do know that Dru and Vicki are the youngest and they share the same birthday 4-3-42!

But, hey, I won't argue with the "wisest"

Susie Turner Crouch

This is getting complicated!  I got it totally wrong since David and Paul have already had their bdays and mine is not until Wed.  The good news is that that makes me a whole lot younger!

Tom Wilson thinks he's the wisest (i.e.. eldest) CHS '59er

Happy Birthday to all my March birthday classmates.
It seems that Diane, Elvis and I share the January 8th birthday, but I'm a year older than Diane.
When is Anne's January birthday?  Is it possible that I'm the oldest?

Thank yous from David and Paul

 Paul Robere

It is so good to hear from you and you look great! I had a wonderful birthday (No. 69) yesterday thanks mainly to all of my CHS classmates.
Even though we are now scattered all  across the United States and world, we are still here for each other and now mean more to each other than ever before. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Love,
David (Young Parker) in Nashville

Nathan (Pearlman),

Thank you for your wishes..I've just turned 70 today...which probably puts me toward the top of the list.  I appeared in a play for children that finished this weekend.  We performed for over 1700 children in spite of the local political demonstrations.  Here's wishing all a wonderful birthday and a New Year to celebrate it.

Note from webmaster:
Paul Robere sent a picture of himself in that play for children but the picture didn't make it across the ocean.   Hope he sends it again.  Dru Smith Fuller

Nathan Pearlman graduated No. 1 (.29) at UC

Well, not the question arises as to who was the individual that started this "age" discussion. It couldn't have been me since it isn't like me to start any controversy; must have been Susie.

By the way, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO SUSIE AND LINDA; I'm either very early or very late but you 2 ladies have a great Thanksgiving.

Robert, I'm still laughing at your comment. I came very close to being invited back but that was in my soph year at UC and I amassed 1 F,2 D's and 2 c's; boy was I glad to get a c in ROTC to bring my average up. I finally graduated from UC with a booming 1.29.

Diane, at the 50th reunion, I thought you looked a lot younger than I.

Take care all
Nathan Pearlman

Carolyn & Paul have a special connection

Nancy Poole Klein is feeling young...er

Happy Birthday to David, Paul, and Carolyn.

All of you are older than I since my birthday does not come along until September.  Until that time, you will just have to be my "older brothers and sister".  I have such wonderful memories of times with each of you over time--David, your memory of the Studebaker that I drove in high school and college; Paul, our days in grammar school at Ridgedale; and Carolyn, our friendship really came after our CHS days.  Each of you are special and I appreciate you so much.  Hope you have a good day on your special day.

Nancy Poole Klein recalls...

From a past reunion about five years ago, I think, we decided that Jerry Potter was the oldest person in our class.  I think we decided this when we had a  picnic at Lloyd's house on the lake.  Nancy Klein

Diane Warren Hodge started young

Happy Birthday to all the March babies!
My birthday is Jan 8, 1942.  I started first grade at Margaret Wilson school when I was 5, so I was only 17 when I graduated.

Robert Curry admits his age

Hey Nathan,

I was so popular in the ninth grade that they asked me back for another year.  I suspect that I am close to the oldest as I had my 70th birthday March 14.

Some of you may recall that my academic prowess had not improved by the time I reached City and I was in some pretty basic classes.  Oh well I had a lot of very interesting company.

Robert Currey

Susie is older than Vicki!

Nathan you are my best friend! I'm not the youngest, I think Vicki is - she reminds me everytime I see her

Linda Rogers and I share the same birthday (we were born on Thanksgiving) and not a soul put us on the Blog - we expect a lot more next time!

Paul, David, Carolyn: Birthday greetings from Nathan Pearlman

Happy birthday to Paul, David and Carolyn. I hope all have had great days. Since my birthday isn't until Oct, not only are you guys older than I, but there are a lot more 59ers older than my 68 years. I think Susie is the youngest of the 59ers; not sure.
Anybody know who is the oldest and the youngest? Doc's [Anne is Jan] , and I think Susie's is Dec, but I'm not sure, and at my age my memory isn't the same today as it was yesterday.

Judy Laubscher McClurg

Many of you have asked about Judy Laubscher. Well, here she is looking wonderful and feeling great! I had lunch last Monday with Judy and Wanda Sullivan Lamb at O'Charley's in Dalton. We talked for over two hours and Judy tells me she is cancer free. Hallelujah! Judy and Wanda are going to join us on Thursday the 25th at Serendipity's in Red Bank. If anyone else wants to come and join us we'd love to have you.

Love from North Chattanooga,
