October Chattanooga Lunch Bunch plans for Christmas

Hey Dru:

We had a great time today at 212 Market. The food is wonderful and the company was so much fun. We are a large crowd and were to happy to have Judy and Wanda join us. Judy looks beautiful as always and, of course, all of the 70-year-olds are all wonders for our age :-)

Hope everyone can make it for the big Christmas gathering at the Boathouse on December 14. Remember to let Susie know at crouchst@yahoo.com by December 1 if you plan to be there.

Let's do Christmas lunch in Chattanooga

Hey friends,

At lunch today we discussed having a Christmas lunch in Chattanooga on December 14th at noon.
So get in your car Nashville, Knoxville, Atlanta, Huntsville and join us, it's just a couple of hour's drive. How about Florida or California or Indiana??!!! Come one, come all.

Mark your calendar for Wednesday, December 14th at noon at The Boathouse, 1459 Riverside Drive, Chattanooga 37406. They have a big room where we can all gather (if we have enough people) and there's plenty of parking and the food is delicious.

Please let me know by December 1st if you are coming so I can make the (big room) reservation.

Love from North Chattanooga,

Susie

In the CHS '59er news: Sally Pankau and Brenda Cooper

Brenda Breneman Cooper (l.) reconnected with Sally Lull Pankau
at the CHS '59er 70th Birthday Bash.
They posed for a picture at the Martin Davis House.
Hi, Dru!

I really enjoy reading the information about the class of '59, even though I got married in '58 and graduated between classes!

I am in the process of trying to move back to the Chattanooga area...have a bid on one house now, in Ringgold near Hamilton Place.

Brenda Breneman Cooper's birthday is not on the birthday list....it is September 11.

Brenda is a draftsman in Chattanooga, but she is thinking seriously of retiring by the end of the year.

Brenda has kept up with some of the people from the class. Her email is: brendacooper@att.net

Thanks!

Sally

Nathan Pearlman sets the record straight

I did not know "all" of the shipmates; however, as I noted, I recognized most of them.  Nathan Pearlman

Nathan Pearlman knew all Shipmates without prompting

Mickey,

I want to thank you for submitting a photograph that has made this "old man's heart" pick up a number of beats. I am pleased to say that I recognized almost all of these young ladies without looking at my 59 annual.

I would also like to point out that besides their good looks, they are some very nice people and I am privileged to have been associated with many of these ladies since I started working on our 40th reunion event.

I am looking forward to continuing to work with many of "these" and other classmates.

Nathan

Mickey Cobble sheds new light on Shipmate photo...

Dru,

There is a newspaper error. Trudy Walker isn't in the picture. However, Ann Pederson (class of '61) is. She is on the end of the second row of girls next to Sherry Hobbsze the classes of '59, '60 and '61 are represented here.

Also, Carole Harcrow's name is spelled wrong as is Diane Mahoney. Both Carole Harcrow and Carole Romick are deceased....such short lives.

Ann Pederson has lived in Australia since 1981, with an international career in archives at the Uni. of New South Wales in Sydney. She shared the Shipmates picture for a video shown at Linda's 5oth Class Reunion.

 Mick

Robert Currey missed out on Shipmate memories

I don't know who they all are though I recognize several and really wish I had been on the ship. Robert Currey

More Shipmate memories...

This had to be in 1959, not 1961, because '59ers clearly are in the picture.

(I was there too by the way. Great summer!)

George Derryberry

And, the cutest, most precious of all was my best friend, Mary Hooff, the first one on the first row.

Mary died of lung cancer at 56.

I loved her.

from Mickey Cobble: Group picture of Shipmates (1961)

To '59ers:

My wife received this picture from Ann Pederson for the class of 1961's 50th reunion. There are several of our classmates in the picture. I thought that you might want to post it.

Mick

Names?  If you are in this photo (or if your friend is) please let me know so I can post those names.   Dru

Thanks to John Hayes, here are most names from the News Free-Press (some were torn): Judy Rheay, Janet Goff, Kay Milner, Karol Ingersoll, Carol (not readable), (not readable) Cubine, Freda Brown, Anne Chalkley, Deane Mahoney, Linda Arney, Harriette Stewart, Sherry (not readable), (not readable) Harrow, Judy Rhyne, Anne Johnson, Joan Graves, Mary Hoeff, Trudy Walker, Esther Owen.
*****************************************************

Just off the top of my head, without looking anybody up, I think I see;

Front row, 3rd from left: Anne Johnson, 4th from left, Joan Graves

Second row, 1st from left, Freda Brown, 2nd from left, Anne Chalkley, 5th from left, Harriett Stewart, 6th from left, Sherry Hobbs

Dru,

I have received an email from our church about Jesse King, Sandra Belk King's husband. Seems he has had a severe heart attack and bypass surgery and is in ICU. That's all I know at the moment.

Thanks for keeping us all up to date.

Love, Nancy

Special birthday greetings from Nathan

I wanted to wish Zane a happy birthday and tell him thank you for letting Georgia beat up my team "the Vols." I wonder if Zane's "lucky horseshoes" had anything to do with Georgia's win---just thinking out loud.

I also want to wish Alvin Fox a happy birthday.

Happy birthday to the two youngsters, Zane and Alvin.

Nathan Pearlman

"Thank you" from Zane Goggin for Sharon Barker Tunnell...

Zane:

Thanks for the lovely note and congratulations on your birthday. Sharon Barker Tunnell is the sole person responsible for your Smilebox. This is her idea and many pictures come from her yearbook collection. I just have software to send out the post to our classmates so I get more credit than I should. It's great knowing more about you and your family, Zane.

CHS '59ers: "We've been friends since 1953, nearly 60 years"

Dear Louella,

It has been a good ride for all of us with so many memories. Think of it, we've been friends since 1953, nearly 60 years. I wish you good health and happiness as well. Our CHS blog & Facebook have done wonders in bringing us all together. It's like having each of you right next door, especially when people post pictures of their family and love ones.

Warmest wishes,

Kent Shalibo

Hi Kent,

I guess those good looks and nice personality got you all titles of honor at Northside and at Chattanooga High School. It's nice to know you still are much a part of the 59ers. Thanks for taking part in the reunions. I wish you and Dianne good health and happiness. It's hard to believe we all must now march through our 70's, but I guess we should just be glad we are still present. As long as possible we should all step high and keep our heads up.

Paul Robere: "Most of Thailand is under water..."

To all of my classmates…

Well, last year we had riots and fire, and this year, we’re flooded. Most of Thailand is under water, and as I write this email, we’re waiting for the waters to finally reach Bangkok.

The word is that tonight we’ll receive 3-4 feet of water down town. We’ve parked our car at our office as the parking area is on the 8th floor, and here where we live it would be in the basement…

Ah, the joys of living in SE Asia during the monsoon season.

Looking forward to visiting Chattanooga sometime during the week of 14 November if anyone is around…

Regards to all..
Paul
