John Ray
John Ray, 72, a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, died on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at his residence.
Mr. Ray graduated from City High School in 1958 and then he attended the University of Chattanooga. He was a veteran having served in the United States Air Force. Mr. Ray retired from Tennessee American Water Company. He was a member of Brainerd Baptist Church. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Louise Ray.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Ruth Ann Ray of East Ridge; daughter, Lisa (Scott) Greer of Brentwood, Tn.; son, John Ray II of Nashville; three grandchildren, Haylee Greer, Raygan Greer and Waggoner Greer; brother, Evan (Virginia) Ray of Etowah, Tn.; sister, Jean (Rex) Kirkland of Birmingham, Ala.; several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 11, at 1 p.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Aaron Johnson and John Croyle officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the 30.06 Hunt Club.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Oct. 10, from 4-7 p.m. and on Thursday from 12-1 p.m. at the funeral home.
