My cup of tea, too, Marsha! I love his house. I wish I could see it, too. We live in a 1914 Arts and Crafts Bungalow that we restored, but nothing like this mansion! Thanks for sharing, Robert.

Good news from Nathan Pearlman...

Bob, that is good news; great news would be if I was able to come, but right now it doesn't look like I can get away; taking care  of 2 of my grandsons.

As tough as it is to hear about our deceased classmates and/or their families, maybe we should try to post the good-great things that we, 59ers, are experiencing. I would like to know of the "good" stuff as well as those things that cause our hearts to feel pain.

Some other good news from me, about me, is that I am absolutely GREAT at this retirement thing. Also my 6 year old grandson, who had Lymphoma when he was 3, is doing fantastic; playing baseball, soccer, swims, doing better in kindergarten than I ever did through my entire education process, and everytime I get down, I think of the months of treatment this little 3 year old endured, I realize my "stuff" is no big deal.

Good News from Georgia

The Harley-Harris-Rives House at  Elm Street, Sparta, Georgia

Well Dru some Good News from Sparta Georgia.  The Hancock County/Sparta CHS 59ers are having a get together at The Harley Harris Rives House here in Sparta on July 4th.  Those graduates from near and far are welcome to the Celebration!  I know that at least one graduate will be here and am quite sure that his dog Rives and cat Harley will also be in attendance.  We plan to have BBQ Tofu, Pinto beans and sliced tomatoes in addition to other garden savories. I will most certainly keep you all informed of the event along with pictures of all the noted attendees.  So Nathan, you asked for good news and here it is.  Let me know if your coming.  All are welcome.  15 Elm Street   Sparta, Ga. 31087

There just aren't any words that can take away the pain that Vicki White is going through; the same for Susie Crouch and Rick Mitchell. Just want you to know I'm thinking of you and that you guys have many friends who are thinking of and wishing you just the good memories.

After the past few blogs, boy,wouldn't it be great to hear good news. Oh wait, Wendy was gone this week end!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tragic News

Vicki Daniel White's grandson, Taylor Richards, was killed in Afghanistan early today. His mother is Vicki's daughter, Barbara. Today is Barbara's 48th birthday and he had called her earlier to wish her Happy Birthday. I have no more details.

Let's keep this family in our hearts, thoughts and prayers.

Our thoughts are with Susie Turner Crouch and Rick Mitchell in the loss of family member Jack Robinson of Dayton, TN. His wife, Winnie Crouch Robinson is Susie's sister-in-law, and Rick's cousin. Jack Robinson died today, Friday, June 25, 2010.

Thomas Jackson Robinson, 72, of Dayton, died Friday, June 25, 2010 at Parkridge Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Mr. Robinson was born on August 1, 1937 and lived all of his life in Dayton. He was a graduate of the McCallie School and of Vanderbilt University and served his country as a 1st Lieutenant with the Army Reserves.  Since 1966 he has served as President and Chairman of the Board of Robinson Manufacturing Company, the Rhea County industry founded by his father in 1927.  For many years, Mr. Robinson served as a director of Dayton Bank & Trust, and as a member of the Dayton Regional Planning Commission, the Dayton Industrial Development Board and the Rhea County Quarterly Court.  He was also very active in the National Knitwear Manufacturers Association.  He was an active and ardent supporter of local charities and community organizations including the United Way of Rhea County, the Boy Scouts of America, and the Dayton Jaycees, serving as president of the latter and being named its "Man of the Year" in 1964.  He was a former trustee of McCallie  School and Bryan College.  Mr. Robinson was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Dayton.  A lifelong hunter and avid outdoorsman, he was a longtime director of the Suwannee  River Field Trial Club and a former director of the National Field Trial Championship Association.  In 2004, he was inducted into the National Field Trial Hall of Fame.

Mr. Robinson was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Carlton Robinson and Nell Spivey Robinson.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Winifred "Winnie" Crouch Robinson of Dayton; his four sons, Fred Carlton (Kati) Robinson II, Patrick Miller (Ashley) Robinson, and Albert Miller (DeAnna) Robinson all of Dayton and Brian Crouch Robinson of Charlotte, N.C.; his sister, Marguerite (Dr. Robert) White of South Pittsburg, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Thomas Jackson Robinson II, Molly Robinson, Winnie Robinson, Wesley Robinson and Stella Robinson; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Monday, June 28, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Robinson Guest House located at 716 Market Street in Dayton.

Graveside services will follow at Spivey Cemetery in Dayton with Rev. Carter Johnson officiating.  Pallbearers will be Thomas Jackson Robinson II, Jack Robinson White, Howard Brooks, Skip Griffin, Walter Forbes, Shuford Johnston, James F. Smith and Thomas J. Smith.

Memorial contributions may be made to the McCallie School, United Way of Rhea County or 20th Century Fund of the Amateur Field Trial Clubs of America.

Dickinson/CHS classmates gathered at the Privateer Yacht Club and enjoyed a great lunch by the lake on the porch of the club house.  Diane Fuller Adams was our hostess.  She attended City for one day and then transferred to Central.  We love her anyway.  Patty Brewer attended CHS part of her sophomore year and then moved to North Carolina.  We all went to Dickinson together.

Monthly CHS Gathering

The regular monthly gathering will take place in the evening again this month. ( We will meet at 5:00 at Harrison Bay Marina for an hour boatride to Ari's. Mark your calendar for the 4th Thursday in June, that's June 24) 


Gaynell Hixson Smith has generously offered to share her houseboat with us.  Everyone will meet at  Harrison Bay and take about an hour's ride to Ari's Restaurant for dinner and then back to Harrison Bay.  


If you will be able to do this, please let Susie Turner Crouch crouchst@comcast.net know by Tuesday so that reservations may be made on Wednesday at the restaurant.

Susie:  Right you are!  Pennie is among my Facebook friends so I got a notice of her birthday.  I remember her well from school so thought she was in my class.  Pennie's birthday is actually June 14, 1942.  Also, Pennie wrote on her Facebook wall June 7: 

Pennie Richelson Pearlman I'm back from a quick weekend trip to Chattanooga. It was long planned as my high school reunion, which was very well done and great fun. I went to a wonderful school with so many accomplished, admirable people. Chattanooga High School did a pretty good job of educationing many generations of Chattanoogans.·

Dru, what a nice surprise when I turned my computer on a few minutes ago.  The picture is great, and you do such a good job keeping us up with Nashville.  You all look like you had a good time. 

 

Also, thanks to Alvin for the great rainbow picture.  What a good reminder that better days are ahead for Nashville after the great flood.  I will be in Nashville on Tuesday for the annual meeting of the Tennessee Retired Teachers' Association, and I know that I will still see some remnants of the damage.  I know that it has been quite a month for all of you who live there.
