FERNLEY, Nev. Jon Gaines Lamb Sr., 69, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, at his residence in Fernley.He was born Oct. 11, 1941 in Chattanooga to Roger and Edith Noll Lamb.Jon graduated from Chattanooga High School in 1960 and then entered the Navy. He served for 20 years, having served on the Yorktown, the Dixon and the J.F. Kennedy.He retired in 1980 as a chief petty officer. He worked in EOD (Weapons Disposal) and was a chief gunners mate technician. He was a Vietnam Veteran.Jon then went on to Grays Harbor College, getting an associates degree in Carpentry. He enjoyed building furniture, birdhouses. doing home improvement projects and was a big fan of the University of Tennessee football and Womens Basketball programs.In 1983 he moved to Montesano, Wash., where he served as manager of the senior center. He was a member of the International Order of Oddfellows, serving as Grand Warden. He then moved to Aberdeen, Wash. in 2002. He recently moved to Fernley, Nev.He is survived by his "Bride" of 30 years, Gretchen; son, Jon Jr., of Aberdeen, Wash.; son, J Noll Lamb of Florida; daughters, Michele Jeakins, of Fernley; Kimberly Balo, of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.; grandson, Jon Lamb III; brothers, Theodore and Roger; sister Cynthia Lamb and 12 grandchildren.At Jons request, there will be no service. A gathering for family and friends will be at a later date.Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Hospice.Arrangements by Smith Family Funeral Home in Fallon, NV 775-423-2255.
