He was born in Chattanooga and lived seven years in Dade County, Ga., where he was a graduate of Dade County High School.
He began playing banjo at the age of 13 and was a passionate player of the guitar with a special gift of music. He loved bluegrass music.
During high school he worked part-time at the Ace Hardware in Trenton and served an internship with the Dade County Sheriff’s Department. His future career was to be a high school history teacher.
He began his military career on Sept. 2, 2008, began Boot Camp at Paris Island, attended Infantry School at Camp Geiger in North Carolina and was stationed at Camp Lejune.
Taylor was a descendant of the Hixson family early pioneer settlers in North Hamilton County.
Survivors are his wife, Emily Mitchell Richards; daughter, Kayden Lee Richards; parents, Steven Craig Richards and Barbara Binkley Pouliot (Shawn); paternal grandparents, Bill and Margie Richards and maternal grandparents, Rogers Binkley (Jean) and Vicki Daniel White (Roger); brother, Matthew Steven Richards (Leslie); father-in-law, Jeff Mitchell; mother-in-law, Hayley Mitchell; grandparents-in-law, Brenda Holms and Donald and Judith Gray;
Family and friends will gather on Saturday, July 3, at 4:30 p.m. for a graveside service with full military honors at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
A Patriotic Drive-By will be conducted on Friday in the downtown Trenton, Ga., square between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 12-4 p.m. at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Arrangements are by Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tennessee.
