Update from Vivian Weatherford
Written by her husband, Jack And, hooray, they plan to be at the Big Birthday Bash ---Louella Cherry Spencer
Louella, Not to brag or anything, but Vivien Weatherford Arnold has nine grandkids, ages 20 (Lindsey) to Eleanor (just short of two years) and her husband (who is writing this) has an additional four, ages 30 (Sam) to 24 (Nick). Sam has three children and her husband was just killed in an auto - motorcycle accident in February.
Vivien and her husband spent the better part of October in Chattanooga with her sister and brother-in-law and took the hydrofoil trip down the Tennessee. It was quite a trip. The Nina and Pinta were tied up at the same dock along the river. With any luck, Vivien and all will return to Chattanooga in a year of so.

Love It!!! Dru responded right away -- we can count on her for information AND she plans to see us in June. Yaahooo.---Louella Cherry Spencer Louella: Thanks for inviting me to tell what I'm planning for 2011. As a member of the Capitol Hill Press Corps I get a front row seat on history every January. This year the Tennessee Capitol is ready to welcome a new House Speaker. A woman will soon wield the Speaker's gavel in the same House Chamber where Tennessee's legislature cast that historic vote giving women voting rights 90 years ago. Read my blog is online. John and I expect a better year than 2010 when we both had major surgery. I hope to see everyone in June at the Bessie Smith Hall.---Dru Smith Fuller

From what I hear our 70th Birthday's going to be quite a wingding. It's time to start thinking seriously about attending. We had such a great time at the 50th reunion, who would think we could do it better. However, it sounds like that's going to be the case. I need a little help from you to get the excitement stirring. Please send me an email about yourself. What's new since the last get-together -- perhaps a new hip or knee, another grandchild, a new pet, or an interesting vacation? Send me a clue and I may call for more details to share on the blog. Your fellow classmates want to hear from you and see you at the big 70th party.
As for me, I'm going to be a grandmother again around the first of the year -- number 5; so, we plan to be going to CA to meet him. Tomorrow we will have Thanksgiving #2 – we had Thanksgiving #1 a couple of weeks ago when our son was here from CA. Our daughter, son-in-law, and their 4 children who live close by will be here tomorrow. We plan to cook while they watch the Macy's parade. When we lived on Long Island, we attended the parade and it was freezing that day. I always thought the entertainers waved to the crowd the whole way but the day we attended most of them just got on the floats right before going in front of the TV cameras and then they would get back off. Remember to send me a clue – bsls317@indy.rr.com. Sure don't want you to miss the BIG event in June!

70th Birthday Committee, Thanks for the update for the birthday party. Yes!!!! Count me in on anything needing to be done! Do we need a Birthday flag! Ha, ha---just joking! But I'm ready to do whatever needs to be done. I'm not very good with computer things but anything "artisy/craftesy" things are right up my alley! I can also be a server, ticket taker, or etc. at any of the events. Just let me know. I already have that weekend marked on my calendar and will be there for the whole time since I have to come quite the distance. But that's ok, I really enjoyed the reunion last year! What fun we had. The "group" picture of all of us at the school is right in front of me on the wall whenever I'm on the computer! Thanks, Pat Crawford (Donica)
Minutes
From the November 18, 2010 meeting
Our second planning meeting was held at Vicki Daniel White’s home and was chaired by Anne Johnson. Also attending were Susie Turner Crouch, Linda Rogers Chambers, Carolyn Tuley Darr, and Barbara Dalton Warner.
Following a review of the minutes of the July 22 meeting, Anne stressed that we are indebted to the generosity of many of our classmates who made donations exceeding the cost of the 50th Reunion. We will be able to enjoy a really nice 70th birthday party and also repay these classmates with another opportunity for fellowship and a fun party. A number of classmates are excited about another chance to visit with friends and indicate that they plan to attend.
Susie is the chairperson for the main event, the birthday celebration scheduled for Saturday, June 4, 2011 at the Bessie Smith Hall; Linda is one of the committee members for this event along with Wanda Sullivan Lamb who is helping with decorations. Starting at 5 pm with drinks (beer and wine included), hors d’oeuvres, and mingling, the evening activities include a dinner catered by the Big Table and a DJ for dancing. For those who prefer other adult beverages, BYOB is fine. Our contract with the venue does include clean up services. All is included for a very nominal charge of $25 per person. We discussed how many we might expect to attend and whether we might have fewer than attended the reunion.
In hopes of attracting a large response, we discussed other “pay as you go” activities including places to get together Friday evening, a daytime event on Saturday, and a brunch on Sunday. Susie has secured a $139 room rate at the Chattanoogan (based on a minimum of 10 rooms) and is working with their staff on a hospitality room near a cash bar for Friday evening. Following this time would be an excellent opportunity for attendees to head out to dinner in any of the restaurants in the area or dine at the Chattanoogan . For Saturday Anne and Carolyn are working on a tour of the 1850 Martin Davis House, a private home in Chickamauga with historical value. This event will include a box lunch, and the house has comfortable porches and areas for relaxing and visiting. Susie is also working on a brunch for Sunday at 11:15 at the Chattanoogan. Details will appear in future mailings for these events.
Obviously volunteers are needed in several areas including name tags for the party Saturday, other volunteers for Saturday, committee/hosts for the Saturday lunch and the Sunday brunch, and invitations and mailings/emails. Charley Wheeler who made the “Save the Date” postcard can do a “survey monkey” to find out who might attend. Vicki has available some of her lovely note cards with famous Chattanooga scenes to be used as invitations with informational handouts enclosed. Louella Cherry Spencer, Trudy Walker Moore, and Pat Donica Crawford have also volunteered.
As those of us present stressed, we want this 70th birthday party to be a really fun time for more visiting among classmates. Our reunion was very successful for many reasons like the hard work of the committee and especially the joy in catching up with friends many of us had not seen in years.
Our next meeting will be on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 5:00 to work on invitations and will be at Vicki’s.
Respectfully submitted,
Barbara D. Warner

70th Birthday Party Planning Meeting November 18, 2010 5:00 Meet, Greet, Eat! 6:00-7:00 Meeting At the home of Vicki Daniel White 672 E. 17th Street, Chattanooga, TN 37408
On Nov. 18, BYOB and a dish to share!
As we remember our Veterans on their day, November 11, I would like to thank each member of the CHS Class of '59 who served in the Armed Forces for their selfless service in making our world safer for all of us. I know it must have been trying at times to be away from family and friends, but you are to be commended for serving and protecting all of us. You will always have my love and respect for all that you did. "Thank You" somehow does not seem like an adequate word of appreciation, but please know that the sentiment is heartfelt. The following is from an article that appeared in Sunday's Times Free-Press announcing a scholarship has been established in honor of our very own Richard Buhrman at Duke University School of Law by the Duke University Estate Planning Council.
Congratulations, Richard. We are all very proud of you for receiving such a high honor.

Phyllis Morris Frank just sent me this picture. It's Neal Grove, Phyllis Morris Frank, with the late Marty Kraar. Alvin Fox
I learned this morning that our friend and classmate Marty Kraar died last night in Teaneck, NJ, from pancreatic cancer. His wife Lynda called me this morning to let me know. His funeral and burial will be in Florida. That's all the details I have for now.
I've attached a picture I took of Marty at our Reunion last year in Chattanooga.
Thanks,
Alvin Fox
